The 1st International Symposium on Extenics and Innovation Methods and the 30th Anniversary of the Foundation of Extenics is held today. Welcome all experts and scholars attending this symposium and thanks to the scholars from China, America, Britain, Romania, India, Japan, Germany and Australia who have prepared for this symposium!

In human history, the use of steam engine and textile machine, etc., in the first industrial revolution was the extension of human hands; the motion of automobiles and trains in the second industrial revolution was the extension of the human legs; later, telephone was the extension of ears; television was the extension of eyes; computer and network were the extension of part functions of human brain; in the future, “the intelligent processing of contradictory problems” will be the extension of human intelligence. This is the future development direction of science and the commanding heights of future competition between nations.

Extenics is the basic research of intelligent processing of contradictory problems and forms the theory and method to solve contradictory problems through the study of extension. It is used to deal with specific contradictory problems in various fields. Its goal is to enable the computer and network to help the mankind deal with problems. For the past 30 years, with the efforts of everyone, we have initially established the theory system and method system as a subject, carried out the research of application in the fields of information, engineering, design, management, control and detection, etc., made good achievements, set up an international research team and organized it into the Extenics scientific community. Extenics has taken the initial shape at the scale of a subject. In order to solve contradictory problems, Extenics has made major extensions to mathematics, system theory and logic theory, put forward the new branches like extension mathematics, conjugation theory, extension logic, extension strategy generation, extension data mining and management extension engineering, etc., and is gradually advancing towards constructing emerging group of subjects.

The current achievements of Extenics owe to the great efforts of a large number of researchers of Extenics and the supporters of many old experts and people from all walks of life over the past 30 years. On the 30th anniversary of the foundation of Extenics, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the selfless dedication of Extenics researchers and supporters and heartfelt thanks to National Natural Science Foundation of China and Guangdong University of Technology which strongly support the research over the past 30 years!

Science is borderless. In recent years, scholars from different countries are actively studying Extenics and making contribution to the development of Extenics. New generations are always better, so Extenics is belongs to young researchers in the future. You are the hope of Extenics. Undoubtedly, the brilliance of Extenics depends on you. We hope that young Extenics researchers will study meticulously and assiduously, keep modest and prudent and shoulder the task of constructing the new subject.

The construction of a subject needs efforts of millions of people and decades or even hundreds of years. In spite of the existing achievements, to make Extenics a mature subject, there is still much work to do. Now it is only the first step of the long march and lots of more difficult tasks are to be completed by us. We will meet more difficulties and more difficult environments on the road of Extenics. However, we believe that Extenics researchers have the wisdom and capacity to go on exploring on the existing basis to construct this subject better.
