Nowadays, competition in comprehensive national strength has become the competition of basic research. Any country dominant in basic research will come to dominate the future development. Currently, it becomes more and more urgent for us to work hard for original innovations, especially those of basic research which can promote the development of multi-areas.
In the human history, there existed many extensions about human. In the first industrial revolution, the use of steam engine and textile machines are extensions of human hands. In the second industrial revolution, the travel of car and train is an extension of human legs. Later, telephone is an extension of the human ears, TV is an extension of human eyes, and computers and networks are extensions of some features of human brain. In the future, intelligent processing of contradictory problems will be an extension of human intelligence, which is no doubt the future scientific development and the commanding elevation of future international competition as well.
Extenics is one of the basic research of intelligent processing of contradictory problems. It explores the basic theory and basic methods of intelligent processing of contradictory problems. In about 30 years’ effort, we have initially established its theoretical system and methodology as a discipline, and have carried out application research in lots of areas such as computer, design, management, control and test. And we have built our research team with members at China and overseas as well.
We have already made some achievements, but there is still a lot of work to do to make Extenics become a mature discipline. Science has no border. In recent years, more and more foreign scholars have engaged in the study of Extenics. For example, “Information of science assessment report about Asia and Oceania” introduced Extenics to the world, and IBM China branch and multinational company Bell as well invited us to give Extenics’ lecture or training to their managers and engineers. Apparently, Extenics has drawn the attention all over the world. We cordially invite foreign scholars to develop Extenics together. We are planning to organize our international magazine and our international association, and to convene the international conference of Extenics.
In 2013, we are planning to organize the first international conference of Extenics i.e. our 30th anniversary celebration ceremony. Today, here, we held the 13th national annual meeting of Extenics, The meeting is not only a summary and exchange about 28 years’ study of Extenics, but also the preparation meeting for Extenics’ going overseas. We shall make a more detailed plan and have a closer cooperation to complete the difficult task and make Extenics go overseas as soon as possible. We all believe Extenics will become a mature discipline and enter the world’s science palace in the near future.
However, creating a new subject is the career of millions of people of decades, even centuries. At present, we are just in the first step of the Long March. There is still much difficult work ahead needed to be done. In the future, we will still have to face all kinds of difficulties and certain unexpected environment. But we believe we have the ability and wisdom to continue to expand and construct our discipline based on the existing basis. Let us go hand in hand, work together, and devote ourselves to building the new course of Extenics.
