At the 13th National Conference of Extenics, Professor Tan Jianrong from Zhejiang University, a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that in the new situation of energy conservation, green sustainable development, the manufacturing industry is facing with a situation of transformation and upgrading, low-power, high efficiency, and friendly environmental production methods are urgently needed. Therefore, the design and manufacture services are becoming key aspects, and the use of extension methods will expand the research fields of design and manufacture
In the special report ‘Key Technology of Digital Design and Extension Design’, Prof. Tan vividly showed the application and prospect of Extenics in areas such as manufacturing industry, green manufacturing, energy conservation, etc. He also added that the application of basic-element theory in innovative design technology and knowledge reasoning made reproduced product a better performance, which indicated basic-element theory to play an instructive role in product recycling. Representatives were inspired by Extenics’ application in engineering fields.
In recent years, as a member of the State Key Laboratory for CAD & CG in Zhejiang University, Prof. Tan has more than 10 graduate students who have used Extenics as a guide for extension configuration and modular design. The study of level product configuration information technology and the integration between industrialization and information technology had made remarkable achievements by using extension methods.
Extenics is a new discipline founded by Chinese scholar Cai Wen in 1983, designed to resolve contradictory problems with formal methods and innovation. Currently, scholars from more than 20 provinces and cities in China are studying Extenics, and applying the extension theory based extension innovative methods to the field of design. Tan’s team had made groundbreaking in extension theory research.
For his outstanding contributions in application of extension theory, the Extension Engineering Society, Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence now has appointed Prof. Tan as the consultant and honorary director of the Academic Committee of Extenics.
