Aug  19-25, 2011, the 13th National Annual Conference of Extenics & Extenics  workshop 2011 was held in Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou. Experts,  scholars, enterprise representatives and students of the Extenics workshop  around the country attended the conference.

Prof.  Yang Chunyan, executive vice director of Extension Engineering Specialized  Committee, Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, Guangdong University  of Technology, presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Cai Wen, national level  expert with outstanding contribution, director of Extension Engineering  Specialized Committee, Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, the  founder of Extenics, made an opening speech. Prof Ma Chunan, vice president of  Zhejiang University of Technology and Lin Sida, director of Natural Science  Foundation of Zhejiang, gave welcome speeches. Prof Liu Wei, vice director of  Extension Engineering Specialized Committee, Chinese Association of Artificial  Intelligence, Dalian Maritime University made a work report for the 12th  Specialized Committee. Prof Chai Guozhong, dean of School of Mechanical  Engineering, Zhejiang University of Technology and Prof Wang Wanliang, dean of School  of Computer Science And Technology, Zhejiang University of Technology, etc  attended the opening ceremony.

During  the workshop, Prof. Cai Wen and Prof. Yang Chunyan had comprehensively  introduced the basic theories and methods of Extenics and their application in  computer science, design, management, control and detection. Two seminars on  learning experience and case analysis and training were organized, in which  students discussed enthusiastically and reap a lot.

The  annual conference arranged 12 meeting reports and paper communication  Symposiums, meeting content included advances in extension theory and its  application, organizing international conference of Extenics and international  communication, spreading extension innovative methods and association publicity,  etc. In the special report ‘Key Technology of Digital Design and Extension  Design’, Prof. Tan Jianrong, Member Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhejiang  University vividly showed the significant application and wide prospect of  Extenics in areas such as the manufacturing industry, upgrade green  manufacturing, energy conservation, etc. Representatives were inspired and got  a lot of illumination edificatory. During the conference, a seminar on  foundation projects of Extenics was organized, during which Prof Zou Guangtian,  Harbin Institute of Technology analyzed 42 National Science Fundamental  Projects about Extenics meticulously and carefully, and participants had a very  heated discussion about the topic and agreed that Extenics is playing a more  and more important role in original innovation field of China.

In  recent 3 years, the study of Extenics in theory has been further developed. The  extension innovative method has been applied to more and more fields. The  foundation of Extenics scientific community indicated the research of Extenics  has entered into a new phase. Popular book series of Extenics have been  published and attracted hordes of media attention. Xinhua News Agency had an  interview with the community meeting of Extenics and prof. Cai Wen. The achievement  of Extenics was listed on the Assessment Report of Asian and Oceanian  Information Science. In a word, the above indicated that Extenics is attracting  more and more home and abroad scholars’ attention and a growing need for  Extenics’ study and application. Therefore, organizing international conference  of Extenics and international communication of Extenics has become the focuses  of discussion, the conference finally determined to hold the first Extenics  International Conference in Beijing,  2013, so as to make Extenics “Go global, go into the palace of world science”  more quickly. We will set about organizing international Extenics conference  and international Extenics magazine.

A number  of young scholars attended the academic exchange, they have been becoming main  force of extension application research.

During  the conference, a general election was undertook and the 13th Professional  Committee Organization was built. The establishment of International Academic  Exchange Department and Propaganda Department, which will take charge of the  international academic exchange and propaganda, was approved in the first  working conference of the Professional Committee Organization. The academic  committee institution of Extenics was also adjusted in the meeting.
                           During  the meeting, the director Yang Chunyan presided over the 2011 working meeting  of Research institute of extension engineering, Guangdong university of technology, which  was the home of Extension Engineering Specialized Committee, the birthplace of  Extenics and important part of Extenics scientific community.

And 21  professional and part-time researchers from all over the country came together  to discuss the institute’s work task and research work plan in the future.

A  summary report “Go global, go into the palace of world science” made by Prof.  Cai Wen summarized years of research on Extenics. Prof. Cai Wen pointed out  that this was a summarizing and exchanging meeting of Extenics study and a  preliminary meeting of Extenics going global.

Representatives  came from all over the country, new and old members joined together to exchange  achievements and experience of extension theory research and application. The  rigorous atmosphere, the well organized process and the positive academic  exchange and discussion showed the good studying style of “develop, strict,  modest, faith” in the scientific community of Extenics.

It’s no  doubt that the successful conference, which took the first firm step of going  globalization for Extencis and going into the palace of world science, will  promot further the study and spread of Extenics.

In the  end, the conference expresses the sincere gratitude to Prof Zhao Yanwei,  Zhejiang University of Technology, postdoctoral Chen Jiang and all teachers and  students who gave industrious work to the conference. The sincere gratitude was  also expressed to the contribution made by participant experts, scholars and  enterprise representatives from all over the country.
