Extenics
Extenics is a new discipline mainly used to solve contradictory problems. It adopts formalized models to study the possibility of things’ extension and is able to extract new rules and methods of innovation. The research object of Extenics is the contradictory problem. Its fundamental theory is extension theory; its method system is extension innovation method (also called extension method); its logic foundation is extension logic; its interaction and integration with other fields form the extension engineering. Extension theory, extension innovation method and extension engineering constitute Extenics. Commonly, Extenics studies the theory and method on generating originality and becomes the theoretical basis and method sources of generating originality for problem solving.
Achievements of Extenics
From 1983 when the first research paper of Extenics was published to 2020, the research of Extenics has been supported by more than 86 National Nature Science Funds. 19 monographs (including Extenics series) have been published by Science Press. There are totally 48 works, teaching materials or proceedings citing Extenics achievements at home and abroad. More than 380 journals have published papers about Extenics.
Many scholars have combined extension theory and extension innovation method with several application fields, forming a series of available methods. Especially, they have researched the applications of Extenics to artificial intelligence, control and detection, management, design and so on. Above methods can be uniformly called as extension engineering methods, such as extension strategy generating method, extension data mining method, three creating methods of new production conception,extension detecting method, extension planning method, extension design method. Some application software, including extension strategy generating system and extension data mining system, have also been developed. So far, the achievements of Extenics have been successfully applied to engineering science, information science, economy, management and started to get economic and society benefits.
