Extenics is a new discipline established by one of the national level scientists of China. It has developed rapidly recently. The theoretical framework and method framework about Extenics have been established initially. At the same time, Extenics has been extensively related to other subjects and developed rapidly in application research such as extension strategy generating system, extension data mining, extension design, and extension software development. According to incomplete statistics, at least 300 periodical, and probably over 110 dissertations of doctor’s degree and master’s degree can be seen associated with Extenics. Recently, with the developing in extension theory and application, more and more scholars have declared or undertaken the projects supported by Chinese National Natural Science Foundation. Now there are over 30 projects supported by Chinese National Natural Science Foundation.
To strengthen mutual communication, and discuss the development of extension, “2009 Extension Seminar for doctorial supervisor and master supervisor was held. It was sponsored by Extension Engineering Specialized Committee of Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence, co-sponsored by Nanchang university and Systems Engineering Society of Jiangxi Province during May 8—11, 2009. The representatives to this conference were from Dalian Maritime University, National University of Defense Technology, Guangdong University of Technology, Naval Air Faculty of Engineering,Jinan University, Nanchang University, Nanjing University of Finance & Economics, Suzhou University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University,Zhejiang University of Technology, Chiese Academy of Science.
The meeting began with The welcome speech of professor Cai Wen, chairman of Extension Engineering Specialized Committee of Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence. Then the standing Deputy-Chairman of Systems of Engineering society of Jiangxi Province, professorJia Renan of Nanchang University, made the welcome speech. Professor Deng Qunzhao read a congratulation poem written by Professor Tu Xuyan, chairman of steering committee of Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence.
The main reports were as follows: “the summary of the development about Extenics ” by professor Cai Wen, report named “some problems exist in doctoral dissertations and master’s theses about Extenics ” by professor Yang Chunyan, executive vice-director of Extension Engineering Specialized Committee. Then professor Chen Wenwei of National University of Defense Technology has the report named “the software development about Extenics ”, “general introduction of extension design research” reported by professor Zhao Yanwei of Zhejiang University of Technology, “ Extenics and the cultivation of innovation ability of postgraduate” reported by Li Xingsen of Zhejiang University, “extension data mining research development” reported by professor Yang Chunyan of Guangdong University of Technology, “found Chinese school of modern management science” reported by professor Sun Dongchuan of Jinan University. The reports had affirmed the key and features of Extenics and clearly indicated that “solve contradictory problems by transformation” must be remembered to improve the research on matter-element theory, extension set and extension logic.
On this conference, some doctorial supervisors and master supervisors discussed problems in learning Extenics and the combination of Extenics and respective major. Besides, many advices have been provided to improve research methods of the future. They have gained a lot from the discussions.
There are two directions of the development of Extenics :
1. To advance in profound research
There should be profound research in theory and application of Extenics based on the research by doctorial supervisors, master supervisors, doctors and masters. At the same time, some problems must be overcome to improve the theory system and method system.
2. To develop the applications, disseminating and popularizing, and improve the combination of Extenics and other subjects.
To disseminate Extenics widely, we should write popular series of books have multi-level trainings and develop software of extension strategy generation, extension data mining and extension design. In the final, to introduce Extenics to society and the world is our aim.
To develop the relationship between Extenics and other subjects, we should learn from each other's strong points to offset our weakness. Moreover, some new extension engineering methods in every field will push into social science to serve a harmonious society gradually.
It pointed out that this conference is very successful and meaningful. On the one hand, it promoted the development of researching Extenics indoctorial supervisors, master supervisors, doctors and masters. More than that, it is very significant to promote dissertations to a higher level.
It also pointed out that we would insist on the policy of "letting a hundred flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend" in the future to make greater achievements.
